On April 1, 1985, one of the great stores of all time was told. It was an April Fool’s hoax by George Plimpton from Sports Illustrated. Plimpton told the story of Sidd Finch, a mysterious baseball phenom who was going to bring glory to the New York Mets. When the hoax was finally revealed it upset many Sports Illustrated readers, and really upset Mets fans. There is much to be learned from this story and its relationship to sales.
