I’ve spent the great majority of my 42-year career in sales, working for both large and small companies. I worked as a sales representative for decades. I’ve also been a sales leader, overseeing an entire team trying to close large corporate accounts and reach our quota.

When I worked for small companies, we always had to figure things out on our own. Consultants often came in with solutions that weren’t built for our needs. I am committed to finding solutions that work for your business size and situation.

I’ll never forget when I was challenged with selling to one of the major pharmaceutical companies in the world. We had received a tip, so I put together the most spectacular e-mail about our company and how great we are and sent it off. Not surprisingly, I heard NOTHING. I’m pretty sure it ended up in the circular file.

Then I realized my old college roommate worked there; and had for 29 years! I reconnected with him, and he was able to make an introduction that opened a door for me. The company didn’t even know who we were in October, and we closed a multi-million dollar contract by the end of the year.

The reason we won the business was that we asked them questions that no one had asked. While having mastery of your subject matter is important, having an in-depth understanding of your customer’s business is crucial.

When a prospect says, “No one has ever asked us that before,” then you know you are on to something. There are countless other stories in my years of experience that I bring to the table.
